ATMABISWAS has started a new move of awarding education scholarships to the meritorious children of the ultra Beneficiaries of the organization from 2015.

Rural Microcredit (JAGORAN)

Rural microcredit (JAGORAN) is the primary loan programme of ATMABISWAS. The programme focuses comprehensively on rural development. Given the fact that employment opportunities in rural agriculture sector are on the decline in the last few decades, the initial idea was to provide credit in favour of –farm activities with the objective of diversifying the income opportunities of the rural Beneficiaries  with time and gradual expansion, on-farm activities have also been incorporated in Rural Micro Credit. The program is now named as  “Jagoran”.

A large number of rural Beneficiaries, they do not have any access to formal financial organization, ironically, because of their proverty. Since its inception, ATMABISWAS has consistently been trying to address such Beneficiaries or people. Funds are made available with least conventional formalities in the rural areas through its beneficiaries. The target group of JAGORAN is the rural Beneficiaries  or who own an acore of  land  less than 50 decimals or a total asset that is worth not more than the value of one acre of land. Under JAGORAN, the rural microcredit borrowers are enabled to undertake family-based income generating activities (IGAs).

A group solidarity approach is regularly followed. People from identified economic strata having confidence and trust on each other are motivated to become organized. The loan repayment is easy and characteristically borrower-friendly. The administrative and related expenses of the organization implementing JAGORAN are covered from the service charges paid by the Beneficiaries   .

In FY 2014-15, ATMABISWAS’s disbursement to its Beneficiaries    under JAGORAN was BDT 546.68 million and outstanding loan reached BDT 304.07 million. ATMABISWAS’s disbursement more to its Beneficiaries under JAGORAN reduced by 56.12% in the FY 2014-15 from that of the previous FY; the Beneficiaries disbursement to borrowers increased.by 56.12%. This clearly indicates a huge rotation of loans by Beneficiaries under this programme. In FY 2014-15, the total number of JAGORAN borrowers under ATMABISWAS umbrella reached 0.464 million, which is about 92.9% of the total members. The average size of JAGORAN loan toBeneficiaries    stood at BDT 13413/-.
